Audition Results

I finally got an email this morning. Turns out, all my waiting was wasted. It just makes me irritated that I was the only person that read that part twice. Oh well, since I blew the song, they probably went with a safer bet in someone they knew, which I understand and respect. This means I really have nothing to do even if I get a job. Whatever I guess. The next audition is for Beauty and the Beast so I have a leg up on that. Anyway, I guess I'll go find some new music to work on, seeing as I have nothing else to do.

And the Diagnosis Is......

And so, as a crazed Musical Theatre major, I have postauditionitis. This is where you complete the audition and just barely wait for the cast list. Symtoms include obsessive visitation of email or theatre site, irritability, anxiety, changes in appetite, loss of sleep and nausea. While symtoms may present immediately or over a span of time is not uniform, this, for me, is the worst part: the wait. Well, I still haven't gotten anything and its been about five minutes since the last time I checked my email so I am going to end here. Please, please, please, please have something!!!!!

Audition

So I just got back from my audition for Andrew Brothers. It was at the Memorial Opera House. I sang Dancing Through Life from Wicked. I went first tonight. I mixed a few verses and got confuzed and my voice cracked so I couldn't belt my notes. There were three guys, other than me, one of which auditioned last night and was told to come back tonight, and three women. The cast is there are only four people in the cast. After everyone had sung, the handed out scripts and we headed in. Two other guys, one of the women, and I went first. Then I switched parts, one of the same men, another guy and women read the second time. Then the last time I switched back to the first part the second guy read the same part and the third guy changed parts. Third woman went the last time. They said they would email us with the results. Not sure when, though, and the first rehearsal is next week. Just a few minutes ago a window popped up saying I had a message and I jumped. Of course it was the stupid job site advertising some store I don't care about that is nowhere near where I live. Aaaanyway, I should find out sometime this week. I'll post whenever I find out.

Practice

Soooooooo, I practiced for at least eight hours straight on my audition song yesterday and blew out the top part of my range. It really showed during rehearsal for the church cantada. My voice was cracking left and right and I had a hard time holding the higher pitches. I managed to maintain a high G with only a couple cracks. Thankfully my audition song doesn't go much higher than an F. I am running through the first time with a piano tomorrow morning. I have been using a midi program to run through it cause I'm not that great at playing piano. Did I mention the audition is tomorrow night? Yeah, definately over my head. All I can say is thank God for show choir.
I actually have no idea how a community theater holds its auditions. I am used to high school, which is absolutely nothing like the real world. I wonder what the talent is like around here? I have no clue whatsoever what I am going to see tomorrow so no matter what it'll be a surprise. Greeeaaat.
Switching gears here a bit, I decided to split my focus on the arrangment thing I'm doing. I'm still working on it, though. I just thought it appropriate to post some Christmas music up. I'm starting with Trepak from The Nutcraker. I really want to do a concert bandish version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman. Tell me what ya think. I'll try to post up tomorrow after the audition. Oy, this can't end well.

Short Notice

So being a Musical Theatre Major, I am constantly on the lookout for a auditions I am eligible for. Well, a friend of ours saw something in the paper and told me about it. Then yesterday we saw it in the paper we get. The musical is called Andrew Brothers. I sent out an email to the director to find out what sort of song to prepare. I got an email back today so I picked a song I know and have been practicing since. And here is the kicker: The auditions are Sunday and Monday. Well this will be interesting..... I'll post how it goes. I think its a community theatre so I have a pretty good chance at getting something, even if that something is in the chorus.

So I was up till 6:30 this morning working on an arrangement. Call me crazy if you want, but its music. I guess if you aren't a music person you wouldn't actually understand. And I mean a music person. You know those wierd people that you see or hang out with who cannot stop singing or working with music? Anyway, Gram-Gram woke me up around noon so I could go apply for a job at the nursing home. I really hope I get a job there. Mostly just because I hate applying. I could really use some money. I hate glasses so contacts are almost at the top of my get list once I have and income. I do have to take care of Fiyero, too. By the way, Fiyero is my car. My 1984 Eldirado Cadillac. It needs some new seat covers and a paint job. The top of the car looks really ratty too. But what I really have my eye on is a music editing/composing program called Smart Score. I downloaded the demo and almost cried it was so crazy! In the full version you can upload and create midis, create new scores, use a very realistic playback, and my personal favorite, SCAN music and the program recognizes it. It turns it into a score and you can play it back and edit it! Smart Score is crazy awesome. The kicker is I don't have $400 to use to buy it. So job please be nice to me. Well, if you want more information about Smart Score go to http://www.musitek.com/ . I am already looking for another peice to arrange. I am thinking about Canon. You know the super catchy melody? Canon in D was written by Pachelbel. I really like it and have two or three different copies of it, for piano and a string quartet....I think.... If you have any ideas, sheet music, or requests comments blah, blah, blah insert what you want here, go ahead. Ideas and tips are always welcome.

Lost Woods

So I finished this midi today and I am real excited! It is a remix of the Lost Woods from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I arranged the remix using Anvil Studios. I used these instruments in the song: Ocarina, Piccolo, Violin, Tuba, Cello, Contrabass, and a String Ensemble. It is about three-and-a-half minutes long. I enjoyed making it, and I think it is good, but that could just be creator's bias. Anyhow, give it a listen and tell me what you think.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the song Lost Woods and all characters and logos are property of Nintendo. I do not own the song, I merely arranged my own version. The credit for the song goes to its composer, Koji Kondo. I recieved the sheet music I used to base this arrangement from www.gamemusicthemes.com. It was transcribed by BLUESCD.

First Post

Hey! Thanks for droppin' by. I am a Musical Theatre Major so this will mostly be about music. I also do some amateur arranging, mostly video game music, using Anvil Studios. I sing all the time and am always on the look out for some good tenor solo pieces. I'm almost done with an arrangement of the Lost Woods from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I might up load it as a midi, but I'm not sure. Anyway, if you have any suggestions, or better, know of an audition near the Gary area, go ahead and post something.
